The Importance of Peer Review

Unleashing your writing into the world is hard, but necessary!

As a writer you need to get feedback because…

  • Others will catch things you can’t
  • Discover how your work is perceived by others
  • Make connections and friends
  • Keep you in the writing mindset

What to do with feedback:

  • Take what you think makes sense, but don’t need to take all suggestions
  • Take time to see if you agree
  • Careful to not piece other people’s thoughts together, so they don’t make sense or they’re not your own

How to get peer reviews

  • Writing Communities (#WritingCommunity on Twitter)
  • Camp RevPit (#CampRevPit on Twitter). “#CampRevPit will provide new opportunities to get feedback, encouragement, and keep the games and support going. The goal is to help you keep working on your ms—with support”. It offers…
    • Query Swap
    • Pages swap
    • Positivity Passes
    • Prompts and Games
    • Cabins
    • Deadline to sign up: May 9

Emily Rae spends most of her day fighting with characters in her head. She controls their bickering by attending writing critiques and write-ins at her local bookstore. Luckily, she’s surrounded by a tight-knit group of writers who are just as crazy as she is. She has attended multiple university-level courses exploring various aspects of creative fiction writing. While she writes all year round, she has participated in National Novel Writing month eight years in a row, and nothing will stop her winning streak. She has also worked as a journalist and wrote several published news articles. Emily currently owns a marketing firm, which entails producing websites, videos, and brand strategies.
